JOB SUMMARY

Under administrative direction of the Muckleshoot Tribal School Principal, this position provides educational and student development leadership for the Tribal School; plans, organizes and evaluates programs and services and promotes communication with students, parents, staff and the community for educational effectiveness.

MAJOR TASKS AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  1. Assists students in establishing high standards of conduct.
  2. Properly addresses the improvement of student attendance and discipline.
  3. Assist in the development, implementation, and evaluation of intervention programs that address the needs of students.
  4. Assist in creating a positive school environment conducive to teaching and learning.
  5. Provide a variety of administrative duties to assist school leadership in managing the school.
  6. Provide guidance to students; encourage, motivate, coach, correct, redirect and discipline students if necessary.
  7. Communicate and confer with parents to promote student success, learning and development of appropriate behaviors.
  8. Communicate with outside agencies concerning children as necessary.
  9. Administer student records; ensure evaluation of each student’s educational growth and development; provide periodic reports to parents, school and Tribal leadership.
  10. Fairly and equitably administer the school discipline policies and procedures and provide campus supervision throughout the day.
  11. Serves as a resource to staff in dealing with effective instruction, classroom management issues and student discipline.
  12. Assess campus safety, student emergency health and safety needs and ensures appropriate action.
  13. Investigate student, parent and staff complaints and grievances, which may include properly interviewing witnesses in disciplinary investigations.

EDUCATION - EXPERIENCE AND TRAINING FOR POSITION

Graduation from an accredited four year college or university with a major in Education. Washington State Teaching certificate.

                                         

Preferred:

  • Three (3) or more years of related experience as a classroom teacher.
  • Washington State Principal Certification and/or School Counseling or enrollment in a certification program.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

The working conditions described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential duties of this class. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to sit and talk or hear. The employee is occasionally required to walk; use hands to operate, finger, handle, or feel objects, tools, or controls; and reach with hands and arms. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision and the ability to adjust focus. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderately quiet.                      

Licenses or Certifications Required

Washington State Teaching certificate. A current and valid Washington State driver’s license may be required at time of appointment or at a time set by the Tribe.
