JOB SUMMARY

The Sports Facility Trainer is responsible for providing high-quality individual and group instruction to athletes of all ages and skill levels.  This role focuses on developing player skills, improving performance, and fostering a positive training environment.  The trainer will also support the overall operations of the sports facility by assisting with clinics, camps, equipment setup, and customer service.     

MAJOR TASKS AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Training and Instruction

  1. Conduct individual and group lessons focused on hitting, pitching, fielding, and sports-specific fundamentals.
  2. Create customized training plans that address technique, mechanics, conditioning, and performance plans.
  3. Demonstrate proper form and safety during all drills and sessions.
  4. Provide athletes with constructive feedback and progress updates.
  5. Lead skill-development camps, clinics, and team training sessions as assigned.

Athlete Development:

  1. Assess athlete performance levels and identify areas for improvement
  2. Track athlete progress and adjust training plans accordingly.
  3. Motivate athletes and promote a positive, growth-oriented environment.
  4. Educate Athletes and parents on training expectations, practice habits, and injury-prevention basics.

Facility and Program Support

  1. Assist with setup, breakdown, and maintenance of training spaces and equipment.
  2. Ensure Facility safety standards are upheld at all times.
  3. Support program promotion by participating in events, outreach, and daily operations
  4. Maintain accurate schedules, attendance records, and lesson documentation.
  5. Provide excellent customer service to athletes, parents, and visitors.
  6. Because of the Tribe's commitment to community service and the well-being of its members, each employee may be expected to perform a wide range of office and field duties from time to time. Such duties may or may not be related to their regular responsibilities.

EDUCATION - EXPERIENCE AND TRAINING FOR POSITION

Required:

Bachelor's Degree in Recreation Administration, Business Administration, Management, Physical Education or related field from an accredited college or university. (5+ years of experience may be considered in lieu of education). 

                                                                    and

  • Certification from NSCA, NASM or equivalent strength and conditioning organization or a strong background (or willing to get certified within 6 months upon hire)
  • Experience working with baseball athletes at amateur, collegiate, or professional levels
  • Specialized interest in: pitching, hitting, fielding, and/or position specific
  • Hittrax experience is a plus

Schedule:

Evening and weekend availability will be required. 

 

SPECIFIC SKILLS/KNOWLEDGE/ABILITIES REQUIRED FOR POSITION

Skills:

  • Excellent communication skills with ability to motivate and mentor
  • Customer service skills, including greeting, assisting, handling inquiries, and resolving concerns.
  • Organizational skills to maintain clean, orderly equipment and training areas.
  • Ability to demonstrate correct athletic movements, drills, and training techniques.

Ability:

  • Ability to engage positively and professionally with youth athletes and families.
  • Ability to teach consistent, safe coaching methods and training standards.
  • Ability to follow instructions and also work independently without direct supervision.
  • Ability to move freely in an active training environment and lift/move equipment (up to approx. 50 lbs).
  • Ability to remain proactive, observant, and attentive to facility conditions and safety needs.

Knowledge:

  • Knowledge of baseball and/or fast pitch softball rules, terminology, positions, and gameplay.
  • Understanding of standard training equipment (tees, balls, nets, pitching machines, protective gear, etc.).
  • Strong knowledge of biomechanics, sports performance testing and injury prevention
  • Familiarity with customer service practices and front-facing service etiquette.
  • General understanding of cleaning standards and routine maintenance procedures.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

The working conditions described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential duties of this class.  

 

The employee is frequently required to stand, walk, balance, bend at the waist, crouch, kneel, twist, use foot controls, and operate a motor vehicle. The employee must frequently lift carry and/or push/pull up to fifty pounds (50 lbs.). The employee is frequently required to sit, talk, or hear.  The employee is frequently required to use hands to grasp, finger, handle, or feel objects, tools or controls.  Specific vision abilities required by this job include close, distance, and peripheral vision and the ability to adjust focus. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderately loud.  Occasionally works in outdoor weather conditions. Occasionally may sit to perform administrative tasks.
