JOB SUMMARY

Under general supervision, organize and coordinate the formation, development and operation of the programs and projects related to human services for Muckleshoot families; supervise staff and volunteers, provide referrals and other information to the public regarding human services issues and assistance. Prepare grant applications and funding proposals.

 

This position is a term-limited position that will be placed under an employment agreement for a 3-year term, with the intent to complete the following:

 

  • During the first year of term, will be expected to review, reorganize, and grow the program.
  • During the second year of term will need to coordinate finding a trainee as a potential replacement.
  • During the third year will be expected to train replacement.

MAJOR TASKS AND RESPONSIBILITIES

 

  1. Organize and coordinate the formation development and operation of programs and projects related to the health, care and general well-being of families; provide technical expertise and assistance in the formation of human services programs.
  2. Secures and manages funding from Federal, Tribal, State and local Resources that fit within the long-and short-term strategic plan and goals of the Tribe.
  3. Prepare grant applications and funding proposals, identify funding sources and stimulate community interest;
  4. Assess community resources and identify unmet needs in human services for families; participate in program development and research, as needed.
  5. Serve as the Tribal representative on a variety of advisory and executive boards and committees
  6. Maintain on-going communication with a variety of social service agencies and other organizations in the community to remain abreast of available human services for families.
  7. Monitor and review budget expenditures, program goals, policies, activities and community recommendations.
  8. Plans, organizes, directs and coordinates objectives and strategic planning for TANF and the General Assistance program.
  9. Act as representative for appropriate activities and issues relevant to the TANF, General Assistance DV prevention and Sexual assault prevention as requested by the tribe. Represents the Tribe at policy level discussions and negotiations with public and/or private interest in an effort to fulfill and maintain MIT goals, objectives and interests.
  10. Ensures the development, implementation, and maintenance of program information systems; ensures that the necessary reports are adequately prepared, including reports for compliance purposes.
  11. Maintains familiarity with rules, regulations, MIT policies and other requirements for compliance with program funding sources.
  12. Refers clients to Tribal or community agencies and other resources.
  13. Assists in the Development assigned budget, and ensures expenditures of approved budget in conformance with MIT fiscal procedures and in compliance with granting agencies ties to the various programs.
  14. Develops and maintains a confidential client filing system.
  15. Prepare a variety of newsletters and other printed materials; market programs; organize and update information; coordinate mailing and distribution of materials.
  16. Reviews service plan and performs follow-up to determine quantity and quality of service provided client and status of client's case.
  17. Prepare and maintain a variety of statistical records and reports related to job activities.
  18. Accesses and records client, Tribal and agency resource information.
  19. Because of the Tribe’s commitment to community service and the well-being of its members, each employee may be expected to perform a wide range of office and field duties from time to time. Such duties may or may not be related to their regular responsibilities.

EDUCATION - EXPERIENCE AND TRAINING FOR POSITION

Required:

  • Bachelors Degree in Human Services, Social services, Public administration or related field.
  • Two (2) years supervisory and/or management experience.
  • Experience supervising/managing 7+ people, in person, in an office setting.
  • Experience working with Native American clients a plus.

SPECIFIC SKILLS/KNOWLEDGE/ABILITIES REQUIRED FOR POSITION

Knowledge of: TANF Policies; Grant Writing; General Assistance Federal Guidelines; Regulations relevant to social service work; Interpersonal skills using tact, patience and courtesy; Community social service organizations and other resources; Rules of confidentiality; Record-keeping techniques as well as Federal and State Guidelines;

 

Skill in: Listening to clients to thoroughly understand their issues; Computer usage, including Correct English usage, grammar, spelling, punctuation and vocabulary and spreadsheets; Supervising; Oral and written communication; Read, interpret, apply and explain codes, rules, regulations, policies and procedures

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

The working conditions described herein are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential duties of this class. The employee is frequently required to sit and talk or hear, use hands to finger, handle, or feel objects, tools or controls. The employee is occasionally required to walk, drive a motor vehicle and reach with hands and arms. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 10 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision and the ability to adjust focus. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderately quiet.

Licenses or Certifications Required

A valid Washington State driver’s license is required at the time of appointment or at a time set by the Tribe.
