JOB SUMMARY

Under supervision, assists in planning, preparing, cooking and serving meals and cleaning the kitchen and surrounding work area at the Muckleshoot Senior Center or other designated sites.

MAJOR TASKS AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  1. Assists in preparing, cooking and serving food.
  2. Receives and stores food and cleaning supplies.
  3. Cleans work site; maintains good housekeeping and sanitary conditions.
  4. Maintain Washington State Health Code standards.
  5. Because of the Tribe’s commitment to community service and the well being of it’s members, each employee may be expected to perform a wide range of office and field duties from time to time. Such duties may or may not be related to their regular responsibilities.

EDUCATION - EXPERIENCE AND TRAINING FOR POSITION

Graduation from high school or equivalent; State of Washington Food Handler’s Permit; and six (6) months of commercial cooking experience or experience preparing a variety of food in large quantities is required.

SPECIFIC SKILLS/KNOWLEDGE/ABILITIES REQUIRED FOR POSITION

Knowledge of:

  • Food preparation and cooking
  • Food service equipment
  • Basic nutritional guidelines
  • Washington State Health and Fire codes
  • Safety and sanitation procedures

 

Skill in:

  • Cooking, baking and serving high-quality, nutritious meals
  • Oral and written communications
  • Working as a team member

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

Frequently required to stand, bend, reach, and lift, push or pull objects weighing up to 50 lbs. Frequently exposed to high temperatures and liquids while cooking. Occasionally exposed to freezing temperatures while storing and retrieving food from cold storage. Continuous use of close vision. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision and the ability to adjust focus. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderately quiet.

Licenses or Certifications Required

State of Washington Food Handler’s Permit; A valid Washington State driver’s license may be required at time of appointment or at a time set by the Tribe.
