Under the supervision of the Chief School Administrator, assist with the implementation of school attendance policies and procedures which are designed to increase attendance, academic achievement and positive behavior for Muckleshoot enrolled and descendant students attending Muckleshoot education programs. The Attendance Mentor will provide support for the truancy process by preparing required forms, verifying and maintaining required paperwork, liaison with other schools and programs; acting as an advocate for the student, facilitating services/interventions for at-risk students who are not in compliance with Tribal truancy laws as well as ensuring compliance with applicable truancy laws and court orders.
Provide culturally appropriate services and resources for Tribal School families that acknowledge and respect cultural activities.
1) Completion of an associate degree OR completion of two years of college, not a degree, but ninety (90) quarter hours or sixty (60) semester hours of college credit.
2) Two (2) years of experience working in a school or social services setting that includes working with Early Childhood Learners (pre-kindergarten) and/or school age youth and their parents.
1. Highly effective oral and written communication skills to work with students, parents/guardians, staff and administrators in a native community.
2. Understanding of confidentiality requirements with regard to school and family matters.
3. Ability to develop and maintain positive professional relationships with school staff and community.
4. Ability to work under limited supervision to increase school attendance – problem solving, planning strategies and interventions.
5. Ability to respond calmly and effectively in stressful situations.
6. Ability to maintain records, prepare reports, analyze situations and make recommendations, review and interpret student attendance data; explain, interpret and apply laws, policies and procedures.
7. Proficient in Word processing, Excel Spreadsheets and other basic computer programs.
8. Ability to lead, guide and/or coordinate with others to implement Truancy procedures and policies.
The working conditions described herein are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential duties of this class spec. The employee is frequently required to sit and talk or hear, use hands to finger, handle, or feel objects, tools or controls. The employee is occasionally required to walk, drive a motor vehicle and reach with hands and arms. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 30 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision and the ability to adjust focus. The employee will be required to drive throughout the Muckleshoot community, making home visits, picking up/dropping off students and attending meetings.
