JOB SUMMARY

Under supervision, performs paraprofessional-level health care assistance duties in clinics and/or through specialized health and/or dental care programs.

MAJOR TASKS AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  1. Responds to inquiries by phone and in person, identifies clients’ needs, schedules client appointments as appropriate and transports clients, when necessary.
  2. Collects and records measurements and vital signs; interviews clients for medical, dietary and dental history as well as other needs and/or concerns.
  3. Using established protocols evaluates intake data for health risk factors and coordinates care with appropriate health care provider.
  4. Provides basic health and nutrition information to clients as well as referrals to health care services and available resources.
  5. Serves as liaison and advocate for client, health care and community providers.
  6. Conducts periodic home visits to monitor client needs.
  7. Monitors and helps to maintain eyeglasses, hearing aids, dentures and other such items to insure proper fit, function and working condition.
  8. Monitors patient medications to assure proper dosages and refills prescriptions if/when necessary.
  9. Maintain the privacy and confidentiality of all protected health information in accordance with the Division’s Policies and Procedures, and in compliance with state and federal regulations.
  10. Because of the Tribe’s commitment to community service and the well-being of its members, each employee may be expected to perform a wide range of office and field duties from time to time. Such duties may or may not be related to their regular responsibilities.

EDUCATION - EXPERIENCE AND TRAINING FOR POSITION

Graduation from high school or equivalent and six (6) months of related experience in a health or dental clinic setting is required.

SPECIFIC SKILLS/KNOWLEDGE/ABILITIES REQUIRED FOR POSITION

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

The working conditions described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential duties of this class. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to sit and talk or hear. The employee is occasionally required to walk; use hands to operate, finger, handle, or feel objects, tools, or controls; push and pull; and reach with hands and arms.  Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision and the ability to adjust focus. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderately quiet.
