JOB SUMMARY

Under immediate supervision, performs varied manual work in cleaning and maintaining a variety of buildings, facilities, grounds and equipment.

MAJOR TASKS AND RESPONSIBILITIES

This is the first level within a three level series and is distinguished from the Grounds and Facilities Worker II in that incumbents generally perform only very basic labor duties and typically work with and under the guidance of another worker.   

  1. Performs manual labor and uses various types of hand and small power tools such as hammers, saws, axes, drills, weed eaters, blowers, shovels, rakes and hoes.  Performs minor adjustments and repairs to such equipment.
  2. Mows, edges and trims lawns using hand or small horsepower mowers, edger’s and sweepers; waters and weeds lawns, shrubs and flower beds; rakes and clears litter; clears brush and gathers leaves; saws, splits and stacks wood.
  3. Sweep and clean facility perimeters.
  4. Strip, wax and scrub various types of floors; vacuum and extract dirt from carpets; machine buff floors; dust, wash and vacuum surfaces.
  5. Clean, stock and sanitize lunchrooms and restrooms including tables, chairs, toilets, showers, sinks and walls; empty trash.
  6. Clean glass windows and surface areas and remove graffiti.
  7. As directed, may mix and use cleaning solutions and chemicals.
  8. Request, stock and loads and unloads materials, equipment and supplies
  9. May be required to drive pickup trucks, automobiles and other small, motorized vehicles in connection with manual work activities.  Performs minor repairs or adjustments, lubrication and safety checks on vehicles and/or trailers.
  10. 10.  Assist in room set-ups, moving and arranging furniture, office relocations, and setting-up and removing chairs, tables, room dividers, etc.
  11. Because of the Tribe’s commitment to community service and the well being of its members, each employee may be expected to perform a wide range of office and field duties from time to time. Such duties may or may not be related to their regular responsibilities.

EDUCATION - EXPERIENCE AND TRAINING FOR POSITION

Equivalent to graduation from high school is required.

SPECIFIC SKILLS/KNOWLEDGE/ABILITIES REQUIRED FOR POSITION

Basic mathematics; Operating small hand tools; Oral and written communications; Recognizing safety hazards.  Basic cleaning and grounds keeping techniques; Use and care of hand tools and equipment; Safe work practices.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

The working conditions described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential duties of this class. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to reach with hands and arms. The employee frequently is required to stand; walk; and use hands to finger, handle, feel or operate objects, tools, or controls. The employee is occasionally required to sit; climb or balance; stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl; and talk or hear. The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 50 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move more than 100 pounds.

 

Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus. While performing the duties of this job, the employee regularly works near moving mechanical parts and in outside weather conditions. The employee frequently works in high, precarious places and is frequently exposed to wet and/or humid conditions, fumes or airborne particles, toxic or caustic chemicals, and vibration. The employee is occasionally exposed to risk of electrical shock. The noise level in the work environment is usually loud.

Licenses or Certifications Required

Current and valid Washington state driver’s license.
