JOB SUMMARY

Under supervision, performs semi-skilled and skilled work in the general maintenance and repair of buildings, facilities, grounds and equipment

MAJOR TASKS AND RESPONSIBILITIES

1. Performs repairs to and maintains a variety of facilities, grounds, structures and equipment, including periodic preventive maintenance and inspection.

2. Operates a variety of equipment and small hand and power tools to perform necessary maintenance and repair functions.

3. Strips, waxes and scrubs various types of floors; vacuums and extracts dirt from carpets; machine buff floors; dusts, washes and vacuums surfaces.

4. Cleans, stocks and sanitizes lunchrooms and restrooms including tables, chairs, toilets, showers, sinks and walls; empties trash, cleans glass windows and surface areas and remove graffiti.

5. Mixes and use cleaning solutions and chemicals.

6. Loads and unloads materials, equipment and supplies.

7. Drives pickup trucks, automobiles and other small, motorized vehicles in connection with manual work activities; performs minor repairs or adjustments, lubrication and safety checks on vehicles and/or trailers.

8. Maintains daily logs and completes work requests on assignments.

9. Identifies supply needs and make purchases as necessary.

10. Designs, constructs, and/or remodels simple structures.

11. Handles room set-ups, arranging furniture, office relocations, and setting-up and removing chairs, tables, room dividers, etc.

EDUCATION - EXPERIENCE AND TRAINING FOR POSITION

Knowledge of: Safe and proper care and use of tools and equipment; Safe work practices and procedures; Basic building craft and mechanical trades.

 

Skill in: Basic mathematics; Basic mechanics and carpentry; Operating small hand tools; Oral and written communications; Reading blueprints and drawings; Performing minor equipment maintenance and repairs; Recognizing safety hazards.

SPECIFIC SKILLS/KNOWLEDGE/ABILITIES REQUIRED FOR POSITION

Equivalent to graduation from high school and one year of related maintenance or repair experience is required. Special Requirements A valid Washington State driver’s license is required at the time of appointment or at a time set by the Tribe.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to reach with hands and arms. The employee frequently is required to stand; walk; and use hands to finger, handle, feel or operate objects, tools, or controls. The employee is occasionally required to sit; climb or balance; stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl; and talk or hear. The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 50 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move more than 100 pounds.

 

Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus. While performing the duties of this job, the employee regularly works near moving mechanical parts and in outside weather conditions. The employee frequently works in high, precarious places and is frequently exposed to wet and/or humid conditions, fumes or airborne particles, toxic or caustic chemicals, and vibration. The employee is occasionally exposed to risk of electrical shock. The noise level in the work environment is usually loud.

A valid Washington State driver’s license is required at the time of appointment or at a time set by the Tribe.
