  • JOB SUMMARY

    Under general supervision, ensures the safety of children while boarding, transporting, and exiting the bus keeping in compliance with Head Start Performance.

    MAJOR TASKS AND RESPONSIBILITIES

    1. Loads and unloads students safely at designated stops and on field trips, helps to buckle children into the supplied seatbelts. 2. Ensures student safety in crossing the street. 3. Maintains control of students on vehicle; responds to parents and other citizens concerning transportation schedules and problems. 4. Acts as occasional Van Driver substituted. 5. Sweeps and maintains vehicles in clean and orderly condition. 6. Completes transportation records such as number of students transported, mileage, special runs, route directions, etc. 7. May transport children with special learning needs and physical challenges; may operate power lifts to load and unload students in wheelchairs; may strap and tie down wheelchairs to ensure student safety. Other Duties as assigned 1. Playground monitor 2. Routine copying and filing for teachers 3. Assisting teachers in class 4. Participate in family styles meals 5. Class room clean-up 1.     EDUCATION - EXPERIENCE AND TRAINING FOR POSITION

    High School Diploma or equivalent and a Class C Commercial Driver’s license with specific endorsements/restrictions are required. First Aid/CPR certification (current). Prior Bus Aid training as per Head Start Performance Standards. Special Requirements Incumbents must pass a criminal background check, a drug screen and meet all health and immunization requirements required by federal, state or Tribal laws and regulations. All Head Start positions require obtaining satisfactory results on a pre-employment physical examination, including a tuberculosis screening. A first aid/CPR certification may be required for some positions at time of appointment or at a time set by the Tribe.

    SPECIFIC SKILLS/KNOWLEDGE/ABILITIES REQUIRED FOR POSITION

    High School Diploma or equivalent, current and valid Washington State Driver’s License is required. A Class C Commercial Driver’s license with specific endorsements/restrictions is preferred. At least 6 months of working with children ages 0-5 in an educational setting. Special Requirements Incumbents must pass a criminal background check, a drug screen and meet all health and immunization requirements required by federal, state or Tribal laws and regulations. All Head Start positions require obtaining satisfactory results on a pre-employment physical examination, including a tuberculosis screening.     PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

    The working conditions described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential duties of this class. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to sit and drive, talk, see and hear. The employee is occasionally required to walk; use hands to operate, finger, handle, or feel objects, tools, or controls; and reach with hands and arms.  The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 30 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision and the ability to adjust focus.  The noise level in the work environment is usually moderately quiet.                        

    Licenses or Certifications Required
