  • JOB SUMMARY

    Under direct supervision of a journeyman Electrician, this position involves gaining experience and training as required for an Electrician apprenticeship.

    MAJOR TASKS AND RESPONSIBILITIES

    1. Assist journey-level employees in the work area as assigned.
    2. Learn and apply safety principles related to daily work tasks.
    3. Assist with checking and replacing faulty switches, sockets, and other simple elements of electrical systems such as lighting fixtures, tubes, and ballasts.
    4. Assist in connecting wiring to fixtures and power equipment; splices wires as required.
    5. Assist with inspecting and testing electrical lighting, signal, communication, and other electrical equipment.
    6. Assist in installing and monitoring performance of installed electrical equipment for hazards, adjustments, or replacement.
    7. Learns to read blueprints; works from sketches, observation or verbal instructions.
    8. Assist with mounting lighting fixtures into position and completes circuits according to diagram specifications.
    9. Assist in repairs, install, replacement, and tests electrical circuits, equipment, and appliances using appropriate tools and testing instruments.
    10. Because of the Tribe’s commitment to community service and the well being of its members, each employee may be expected to perform a wide range of office and field duties from time to time. Such duties may or may not be related to their regular responsibilities.

    EDUCATION - EXPERIENCE AND TRAINING FOR POSITION

    High School diploma or GED equivalent.

    SPECIFIC SKILLS/KNOWLEDGE/ABILITIES REQUIRED FOR POSITION

    Skills in: Basic to intermediate math; working with hand tools and power tools; oral and written communication; safe work practices.

     

    Ability to: Report to work on time; establish and maintain cooperative and effective working relationships with others; read and interpret documents as it applies to the trade; demonstrate the desire to learn and work in the trade; recognize safety hazards.

    PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

    While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand; walk; use hands to finger, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms; climb or balance; stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl and talk or hear. The employee must regularly lift and/or move up to 25 pounds, frequently lift and/or move up to 50 pounds, and occasionally lift and/or move more than 100 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.

     

     

    While performing the duties of this job, the employee regularly works near moving mechanical parts and is subject to inclement weather conditions. The employee frequently works in high, precarious places and is frequently exposed to wet and/or humid conditions, fumes or airborne particles, toxic or caustic chemicals, and vibration. The employee is regularly exposed to risk of electrical shock.  The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate to loud.

    Licenses or Certifications Required

    A current and valid Washington State driver’s license.
