    Under general administrative direction of the Early Childhood Education Director, plans, directs, and manages the day-to-day operations of the Tribe’s Muckleshoot Child Development Center.


    1. Manages program operations to achieve goals within available resources; reviews progress and directs changes as needed.
    2. Provides leadership and direction in the development of program goals and strategic plan; gathers, interprets, and prepares data for studies, reports and recommendations; coordinates program activities with other divisions and agencies as needed.
    3. Provides advice to supervisors and other officials on MCDC issues, programs, services, and plans; makes private and public presentations to the Tribal Council, other legislative bodies, boards, commissions, civic groups and the general public.
    4. Assures that assigned areas of responsibility are performed within budget; performs cost control activities; monitors revenues and expenditures in assigned area to assure sound fiscal control; prepares annual budget requests; assures effective, efficient and allowable use of budgeted funds, personnel, materials, facilities, and time.
    5. Determines work procedures, prepares work schedules, and expedites workflow; studies and standardizes procedures to improve efficiency and effectiveness of operations.
    6. Issues written and oral instructions; assigns duties and examines work for exactness, neatness, and conformance to policies and procedures.
    7. Develops short-and-long-range plans; assures educational process meets Early Childhood Education Division standards and regulations; gathers, interprets, and prepares data for studies, reports and recommendations.
    8. Serves as a liaison between the Tribe and other tribes, government agencies, other public, private or nonprofit agencies, groups and associations regarding the Muckleshoot Child Development Center program.
    9. Develops and implements ways to create and maintain high level of parent involvement.
    10. Develops, coordinates, and updates community assessments; maintains community support by working with community groups; prepares promotional materials, marketing information and public relations activities.
    11. Monitors local, state and Federal legislation and regulations relating to early childhood education, and reports findings, trends and recommendations to the Early Childhood Education Director.
    12. Because of the Tribe’s commitment to community service and the well being of its members, each employee may be expected to perform a wide range of office and field duties from time to time. Such duties may or may not be related to their regular responsibilities.



    Required: Graduation from an accredited four-year college or university with a degree in early childhood education, education, or a closely related field and three (3) years related early childhood education experience including one (1) year of administration or supervision.


    Special Requirements:  Incumbents must pass a criminal background check, a drug screen and meet all health and immunization requirements required by federal, state or Tribal laws and regulations. All positions require obtaining satisfactory results on a pre-employment physical examination, including a tuberculosis screening.


    Knowledge of: Early Childhood education regulations, policies, and procedures and current literature, trends and developments; Early childhood education practices and techniques; Effective behavior management techniques; Rules and procedures for student safety; Supervisory techniques and practices; Strategic planning techniques and process.


    Skill in: Operating a personal computer, including applicable software; office equipment; Communicating effectively orally and in writing with Tribal officials and managers, other governmental officials, consultants, employees, and community members, including preparation and delivery of public presentations, at times in controversial situations; Conducting research, analyzing data and compiling comprehensive reports, with recommendations; Interpreting administrative guidelines and applying them to the work situation; Dealing with students and families in a positive and confident manner; Managing, scheduling, assigning, coordinating and monitoring the work of professional, technical and support staff; Establishing effective working relationships with diverse groups and individuals.


    The working conditions described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential duties of this class; Work is performed mostly in office settings. Hand-eye coordination is necessary to operate computers and various pieces of office equipment; While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to sit, talk or hear; occasionally required to stand or walk, stoop; use hands to finger, handle, feel or operate objects, tools, or controls; and reach with hands and arms; occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus; the noise level in the work environment is usually quiet.

    Licenses or Certifications Required

    A valid Washington State driver’s license, valid First Aid/CPR card, and Food Handler’s permit are required at the time of appointment or at a time set by the Tribe.
