    Under general supervision, performs a variety of custodial functions; cleans and maintains assigned buildings, facilities, and/or office areas; acts in a lead capacity and performs other related duties as assigned.


    This class is the senior-level position in the Custodial series.  Positions at this level work with minimal supervision, perform skilled-complex custodial tasks, and may act in a lead capacity initiating tasks with use of independent judgment.   


    1. Lead custodial cleaning crews and assists supervisor to ensure day-to-day tasks and duties are performed efficiently and effectively by custodial crews.  Report issues to supervisor as needed.
    2. Strip, wax and scrub various types of floors; vacuum and extract dirt from carpets; machine buff floors; dust, wash and vacuum surfaces.
    3. Clean, stock and sanitize lunchrooms and restrooms including tables, chairs, toilets, showers, sinks and walls; empty trash.
    4. Perform detailed cleaning and sanitizing tasks to meet industrial standards of child care facilities.
    5. Clean glass windows and surface areas and remove graffiti.
    6. Mix and use cleaning solutions and chemicals following directions recommended by product manufactures.
    7. Move, stock and loads and unloads materials, equipment and supplies.
    8. Drive pickup trucks, automobiles and other small, motorized vehicles in connection with manual work activities.  Routinely performs minor repairs or adjustments, lubrication and safety checks on mechanical and cleaning equipments.
    9. Assist in room set-ups, moving and arranging furniture, office relocations, and setting-up and removing chairs, tables, room dividers, etc.
    10. Perform special cleaning and special event duties as required; work varying shifts.
    11. Assist Supervisor to train subordinate custodial staff in performance of job-related tasks.
    12. Because of the Tribe’s commitment to community service and the well being of its members, each employee may be expected to perform a wide range of office and field duties from time to time. Such duties may or may not be related to their regular responsibilities.


    Required: High school diploma or GED equivalent and four (4) years custodial/janitorial experience which includes increased levels of responsibility or lead/supervisory experience; OR any combination of education and experience which would provide the required knowledge and skills and allows successful performance on the job.


    Skill in: Performing a variety of routine to skilled custodial functions; completing assigned work in a timely and efficient manner; safely operating custodial equipment and handling cleaning chemicals; attention to detail; organization and time-management; observing and monitoring work of staff.


    Knowledge of: Methods, materials, and equipment used in custodial work; basic math; safety and sanitation practices and measures required.


    Ability to: Effectively communicate verbally and in writing; read and write; follow verbal and written instructions; operate and care for custodial equipment and supplies; observe safety requirements and safe work practices; perform work involving regular physical activity; establish and maintain cooperative work relationships; maintain confidentiality; work independently with minimal supervision;  use initiative; use independent judgment; arrive to work in a timely manner; attend required training; work varying shifts.


    The working conditions described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential duties of this class.  While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to reach with hands and arms. The employee frequently is required to stand; walk; and use hands to finger, handle, feel or operate objects, tools, or controls. The employee is occasionally required to sit; climb or balance; stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl; and talk or hear.  The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 50 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move more than 100 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.  While performing the duties of this job, the employee regularly works near moving mechanical parts and in outside weather conditions. The employee frequently works in high, precarious places and is frequently exposed to wet and/or humid conditions, fumes or airborne particles, toxic or caustic chemicals, and vibration. The employee is occasionally exposed to risk of electrical shock.  The noise level in the work environment is usually loud.

    Licenses or Certifications Required

    A valid and current Washington State driver’s license.
