  • JOB SUMMARY

    Lifeguard will monitor participants in aquatic areas according to required state and local safety and health guidelines. Lifeguard will also monitor and maintain pool environment to meet state and local health and safety regulations.

     

    MAJOR TASKS AND RESPONSIBILITIES

    Attendance:

      1. To be in attendance and on time.

     

    Major Duties and Management Skills:

      1. Monitors pool areas and enforces pool usage guidelines in a respectful, professional and fair manner
      2. Follows proper procedure for lifeguarding and other duties with little supervision.
      3. Continually practices lifeguarding and swimming skills.
      4. Maintains and updates certifications prior to expiration dates, and provides supervisor with updated copies of required certifications.
      5. Performs daily chemical tests per policy, troubleshoots chemical problems and, adds chemicals when needed.
      6. Efficient and confident when using rescue or safety equipment.
      7. Helpful and courteous to all participants at all times.
      8. Completes cleaning assignments; follows written procedures for any bodily fluid discharge.
      9. Communicates promptly and effectively with Supervisor regarding any incidents or accidents that occur.
      10. Completes all duties on daily cleaning schedules and opening / closing procedures.
      11. Responsible for assisting in training new employees and cross-training current employees until they are comfortable enough to work on their own.
      12. Keeps deck and office areas clean, organized and free of clutter.

     

    Safety:

      1. Performs duties according to national standards and department policy.
      2. Follows procedure for cleaning up biohazard.
      3. Documents emergencies, accidents and incidents according to policy.
      4. Responds to emergencies in a calm and professional manner.
      5. Maintains current CPR / First Aid / Rescue skills.

     

     

    Communication:

      1. Represents the MIT HWC in a positive and professional manner when interacting with customers and the community.
      2. Demonstrates positive interpersonal relations in dealing with staff, customers and supervisors.
      3. Proficient in written communication, record keeping, memos and correspondence.
      4. Maintains strict confidentiality when dealing with sensitive customer or personnel issues.
      5. Excellent time management and organizational skills.

     

    OTHER DUTIES:

               

                Because of the Tribe’s commitment to community service and the well being of its members, each employee may be expected to perform a wide range of office and field duties from time to time. Such duties may or may not be related to regular responsibilities.

     

    EDUCATION - EXPERIENCE AND TRAINING FOR POSITION

    QUALIFICATIONS:

     

    1. Able to communicate effectively in the English language in person, by phone and in writing.
    2. Able to be physically active up to 80% of the time to include standing, lifting, walking, swimming, twisting, bending, pushing, pulling and reaching.
    3. Hand-eye coordination is necessary to operate computers and various pieces of equipment.

     

    EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENTS:

    1. High School Diploma or GED
    2. American Red Cross Lifeguard Certification (current)
    3. CPR and First Aid certification (current)

    Minimum 6 months of lifeguarding experience

    Licenses or Certifications Required

    Red Cross Lifeguard Certification
