JOB SUMMARY

Under administrative direction, plans, manages, coordinates and performs administrative, technical and professional work in the operation of the Tribal college’s Vocational Education program.

MAJOR TASKS AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  1. Manages the operation of the Career & Technical Education program in order to achieve goals within available resources; reviews progress and directs or recommends changes as needed.
  2. Gathers information from a number of sources; refers pertinent information to the director; prepares and maintains various reports and records for the program.
  3. Prepares budget requests for director approval and provides advice and information; approves proposed expenditures, requisitions, vouchers, etc.
  4. Reviews expense, statistical, and budget status reports and advises director of financial status of program.
  5. Recommends changes and modifications to the program with appropriate documentation and analysis; develops and establishes procedures to implement new programs and/or activities; formulates and develops new program policies and practices
  6. Develops cost estimates, plans future program needs; develops budget requests or revisions; prepares, writes and administers grant applications related to the program.
  7. Represents the program in daily business, at staff or College meetings, and at meetings or conferences; serves as program liaison with area businesses and other educational institutions.
  8. Participates and advises director in personnel decisions involving program employees and recommends hiring, dismissals, disciplinary action, position allocations, etc.
  9. Maintain and monitor daily, weekly, and monthly student progress and attendance.

EDUCATION - EXPERIENCE AND TRAINING FOR POSITION

Graduation from a four-year college or university with a degree in education or a closely related field.  Special Requirements: A valid Washington State driver’s license is required at the time of appointment or at a time set by the Tribe.

SPECIFIC SKILLS/KNOWLEDGE/ABILITIES REQUIRED FOR POSITION

Knowledge of: Theories, process and practices relating to community college vocational education;  Course design, teaching methods and techniques of presenting material; Adult learning styles; Current literature, trends and developments in vocational education; Strategic planning techniques and process.

 

Skill in:

Operating a personal computer, including applicable software and office equipment; Communicating effectively orally and in writing with Tribal officials and managers, other governmental officials, students, civic groups, employees, and community members, including preparation and delivery of public presentations; Problem solving and conflict resolution; Dealing with students in a positive and confident manner; Designing and implementing lesson plans for students having a wide range of achievement; Conducting research, analyzing data and compiling comprehensive reports, with recommendations; Interpreting administrative guidelines and applying them to the work situation; Managing, scheduling, assigning, coordinating and monitoring the work of professional, technical and support staff; Establishing effective working relationships with diverse groups and individuals.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

Work is performed mostly in office settings. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to sit and talk or hear. The employee is occasionally required to walk; use hands to operate, finger, handle, or feel objects, tools, or controls; and reach with hands and arms. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision and the ability to adjust focus. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderately quiet.

Licenses or Certifications Required
