JOB SUMMARY

Provide engineering technical support to the Public Works Director such as construction inspection, project management and engineering record keeping and update by using AutoCAD software.  Perform infrastructure design as well as developing cost estimates and engineering plans and specifications.

MAJOR TASKS AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  1. Perform project management tasks such as project design, design review, specification write up and review, cost estimating and contract award process.
  2. Review project design and specifications and provide review comments for projects designed by others.
  3. Inspect project site to ensure quality and compliance with design specifications.
  4. Report directly to the Public Works Director for any project design and construction issues as well as any administrative and/or policy or procedure issues.
  5. Organize and manage all engineering records for the Public Works Department, including the use of AutoCAD for filing and updates.
  6. Coordinate with engineering consultant to update the current Water, Sewer and Solid Waste Master Plans.
  7. Attend all design related meetings with consultants and Planning Department personnel.
  8. Compile and organize all utility plans and records using AutoCAD software and spreadsheets.
  9. Perform field survey using GPS survey equipment.
  10. Provide design input to stay in compliance with the MIT water, sewer and site development standards.
  11. Provide input related to all engineering projects to meet APWA, AWWA and WSDOT standards.
  12. Attend weekly management meetings.
  13. Draft correspondences to in-house and outside agencies for Director’s signatures.
  14. Prepare monthly projects progress reports.
  15. Assist MUD staff in preparing and updating all utilities’ customer account information.

EDUCATION - EXPERIENCE AND TRAINING FOR POSITION

AA degree in Civil Engineering or related field is required.  BS degree in Civil Engineering or related field is preferred.

Two (2) years experience with engineering technical support and one (1) year experience with AutoCAD software is required.

SPECIFIC SKILLS/KNOWLEDGE/ABILITIES REQUIRED FOR POSITION

  • Intermediate level of computer skills including MS Office and AutoCAD
  • Ability to read and understand engineering plans and specifications and prepare cost estimates.
  • Knowledge of the practical application of engineering science and technology.
  • Knowledge of design techniques, tools, and principles.
  • Knowledge of underground utility lines, roadway and site work construction inspection.
  • Ability to use GPS survey equipment.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to use hands to handle, feel or operate objects, tools, or controls and reach with hands and arms. The employee frequently is required to stand and talk or hear. The employee is occasionally required to walk and sit.

 

The employee frequently lifts and/or moves up to 75 pounds and occasionally up to 120 pounds. Specific vision abilities requires by this job includes close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and the ability to adjust and focus. While performing the duties of this job, the employee occasionally works in outside weather conditions. The noise level in the work environment is usually loud in field settings, and moderately quiet in office settings.

Licenses or Certifications Required

A valid Washington State driver’s license is required at the time of appointment or at a time set by the Tribe. Washington State Engineer-in-Training Certificate is required at the time of appointment. Washington State Professional Engineer License is preferred.
